Visitation for Robert Paul Giger Sr., 89, of Momence, will be from 11 a.m. Tuesday until the 1 p.m. funeral services at the Cotter Funeral Home in Momence. The Rev. Cory Estby will officiate.

Burial, with military rites provided by the U.S. Army and the Momence Honor Guard, will be in Kankakee Memorial Gardens, Aroma Township. Memorials may be made to the family wishes. He died Tuesday (May 22, 2012) at the Watseka Rehabilitation & Health Care Center.

Mr. Giger was a retired laborer from Allen Lumber Co. in Momence. He was born July 19, 1922, in Franklin, Ind., the son of Marcus Talmage and Julia Martha Small Giger. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and the recipient of many awards, including the American Theater Ribbon, European Theater Ribbon with two Bronze stars, the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He was a member of Our Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church in Momence, and the VFW Post 4535 in Momence. He enjoyed doing puzzles and making hook rugs. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

Surviving are his wife, the former Maryetta L. Eckhoff, of Momence, whom he married June 29, 1947, in Momence; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Jr. and Kathy Giger, of Reno, Nev., and Wayne and Donna Giger, of Baird, Texas; one daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Tom Temple, of Momence; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Martha and George White, of Franklin; and one brother and three sisters-in-law, Ralph and Harriet Giger, and Mary Ruth Giger, all of Fort Pierce, Fla., and Pearl Hunte, of Momence.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Terry A. Giger; one grandchild and one great-grandchild; two brothers and two sisters.
