Rodney Orris Boydston, 86, of Columbus, passed away, Saturday, March 9, 2013 in the Laurels of Norworth, Worthington, Ohio. He was born September 20, 1926 in Mechanicsburg, the son of the late Orris W. and Evelyn (Grubb) Boydston. Rodney grew up with three siblings, Roger Boydston and Marion Ackerman, who precede him in death and Marjorie Kingsburg of Benzonia, MI, who survives. Rodney was a 1944 graduate of Mechanicsburg High School where he played on the football team. He served his country during WWII in the United States Navy, 1944 - 1946. Rodney recently became a 65 year member of the Mechanicsburg Lodge #113 F.&A.M. He also belonged to the Overbrook Presbyterian Church and the Scottish Rite. Rodney enjoyed working crossword puzzles, watching sports on television, antiquing, genealogy and the subject of American History. He is survived by his loving wife, Martha (Herbert) Boydston of Columbus. Rodney had five children, sadly three preceded him; their names were, Denise Lynn Boydston, Robert Eugene Boydston and Roger Craig Boydston. His daughters who survive are Robin Lee (Donald) Rose of Dublin and Randy Sue (Kevin) McClure of Lewis Center; step-daughters, Beth (Cameron) Stubbs of Marietta, GA and Donna Cochron of Westerville. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Shelly, Heather, Danielle, Nicholas, Craig, Chip, Robert, John, Martha and Sarah Grace; and his great-grandchildren, Sydney, Mitchell, Giavanna and Kynen. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at the Overbrook Presbyterian Church, 4131 North High St., Columbus. An additional memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2013 in the SKILLMAN, McDONALD & VERNON FUNERAL HOME, 257 West Main St., Mechanicsburg, OH 43044. Burial of cremated remains will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Mechanicsburg, OH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Rodney's name to Overbrook Presbyterian Church or to the Mechanicsburg Lodge #113 F.&A.M., 10 N. Main St., Mechanicsburg, OH 43044.
