Joseph Gannon is the son of Joseph Gannon, Sr. He married Deanna Durbin Welch. He had several children: Wesley, Shirley and Michelle.

Joseph served in the US Army and did a tour in Germany while in the service.

Joseph was first a Fireman and then the Fire Chief in Wilmington, Delaware.

Joseph James Gannon Age 64 years of Bear, DE, passed away on Friday, September 15, 2000 in Christiana Hospital.

Mr. Gannon was a retired fireman. He worked for the City of Wilmington Fire Department for 23 years, and was a member of the Wilmington Firemen's Association. He served in the United States Army.

His daughter, Michelle M. Smith, passed away in 1988. Joseph is survived by his wife of 41 years, Deanna Welch Gannon. He is also survived by his daughter, Shirley A. Gannon; his son, Wesley C. Pennell; a grandson, Jeffrey Smith and 7 additional grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren. Others survivors include 2 sisters, Anne Mezzatesta and Katherine Gannon; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Clinton and Mary Ellen Welch; Brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gus and Shirley Leo; brother-in-law, Edward Testa; 13 nieces and nephews; and his cat and special companion, Missy.

Friends may visit with the family 7-9 pm Tuesday evening, September 19th at the Gebhart Funeral Home, 531 Delaware St., Old New Castle, DE. A funeral service will be held Wednesday morning in the funeral home beginning at 10:30 am. Burial will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.
