Jess Milo McChesney
Jess Milo McChesney, 81, of California City, formerly of San Luis Obispo, passed away May 27, 1998 in Lancaster, California.
A memorial service will be held at Lady Family Mortuary in Arroyo Grande on June 20 at 2 p.m. Eleanor Shumway will officiate. He will be interned at Mt. View Cemetery in Oakland, California.
Mr. McChesney was born March 13, 1917 in Ridgewood, New Jersey. He came to San Luis Obispo with his parents at age 2. He attended school in San Luis Obispo including Cal Poly in 1929 when it was a combination high school and Jr. College. With the advent of the war he entered the service and retired from the United States Air Force in 1951 as a captain. He served as a pilot during WWII and flew over Berlin and Italy. During his lifetime, he owned and operated several businesses and for 5 years was the director of finance for California City. He was an avid gardener and raised vegetables on his 2 1/2 acres to sell at farmers' markets but his real love was the building ajid operating of scale model stream locomotives called; "Live Steamers." In his yard he had trains set up on tracks arid enjoyed giving people rides on his fully operational railroad
McChesney is survived by his wife of 36 years, Irene; sons, Andrew, Edward and Harold McChesney; stepsons: Donald Reed, Roy Reed, Ted Reed and stepdaughter Barbara Saur; 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother Leroy in 1986.
