Son of Rev. William Monroe & Celia (Hays/Hayes) Stewart married, 22 Sep 1848, Lucy Ann Dougherty.


:Died Oct. 5, 1906. At his home at Boyle Heights, Los Angeles. "He was formerly a resident of Long Beach and for many years had made this his summer home. At one time he was the proprietor of the Grand View on Ocean Front." He was 80 years old and a pioneer developer of this area. A southerner, during the Civil War he served as a cavalry captain in the Confederate army. Survived by son David O. Stewart, a prominent business man in Los Angeles and granddaughter Mrs. Ben Martin of Long Beach.
