SPENCER MAN TAKES LIFE AT HOME TUESDAY

A 30 year old Spencer State Hospital employee Enoch Preston Ball,
ended his life Tuesday by placing a .16 gauge shotgun to the left side
of his head and pulling the trigger.

State Trooper C. W. Dye said the shooting occurred between 12 noon
and 1p.m. at the victims Reservoir Hill residence here.

The officer noted that Ball literally " blew off the top of his head".

Police said the World War II Veteran was found lying dead on a bed in
his home by Bill Carpenter Jr., a neighbor, who had gone to the
residence to call Ball to the telephone.

According to Dye, the victim apparently streched out on the bed and
placed the gun butt against the wall, holding the barrel against his head
with his right hand.

He then managed to pull the trigger with his left hand.

A suicide note directed to his wife, stated, I'm going to a better place".
It specified the name of the preacher, funeral home, and pall bearers
he wanted to serve for the funeral.

Dye said Ball had been despondent since being involved in an
automobile accident several weeks ago. He had sufferd a head injury in
the mishap.

He was a native of Reedy.

Teddie; father, O.P. Ball of Spencer; six half sisters Mrs Mae Hubbard
