Daniel Kennell, 49-year-old Casper resident, passed away March 11 at the Sheridan Memorial Hospital in Sheridan.

Daniel Hart Kennell was born on April 30, 1963 in Casper to James and Edna (Voiles) Kennell. He moved with his family to Lakewood, Colo. in 1966 and later to Houston where he attended high school. After high school he joined the U.S. Army and was discharged in 1985. After his military service for his country, he moved back to Wyoming where he attended Casper College and Western Wyoming Community College and studied business. He was married in December 1988 in Casper to Jackie Travis. They made their home in Casper and later moved to Rock Springs, where Daniel practiced his skills as machinist, rising to the position of shop supervisor with Peak Energy. Daniel and Jackie divorced in 2005. In 2009, Daniel moved back to Casper where he lived until the time of his death.

Daniel loved working with his hands. As a skilled machinist he made custom parts for large and small motors and other equipment used in the Wyoming energy and mining industry. He applied his skills as a mechanic and electrician. His hobbies included the love of woodworking, and he constructed his own cabinets for his house in Rock Springs and was doing the same in Casper. Dan was known for his big heart and was devoted to his children. His nurses reported that during his last week all he could talk about was his love for his children and how he was looking forward to their spring break visit. As a native Wyoming son, Daniel was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed camping and fly fishing.

He is survived by one daughter, Cambree Kennell, and two sons, Mitch Kennell and Casey Kennell, all of Tioga, N.D.; two brothers, his twin Don Kennell and his wife Lisa of Santa Fe, N.M. and David Kennell and his wife Melanee of McCall, Idaho; three sisters, Kathleen Menke of Haines, Alaska, Michelle Kennell of Norcross, Ga. and Diane Drew and her husband Jim of Wimberley, Texas and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant son, Travis.
