Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon in the Bethel Baptist Church for Walter B. Waynes Sr. of 520 Downer Street who died Sunday in Overlook Hospital, Summit. Interment was in Franklin Memorial Park, Franklin Township.
Born in Esmont, Va., he came to Westfield in 1905, where he attended public schools. He retired as a round house operator from the Jersey Central Railroad in 1963.
Mr. Waynes was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and its Celestial Choir.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elna W. Waynes; three daughters, Mrs. Susan W. Jackson of Westfield, Mrs. Janice C. Gwathney of Newark and Miss Maxine L. Waynes at home; three sons, Walter B. Waynes Jr. and Ronald B. Waynes of Linden, and Arthur L. Waynes at home; and 16 grandchildren.
