Louisa Krämer was born in Rochester, New York to Christian Krämer and his wife, Catharina Spies Krämer on 22 December 1856. She was their 5th child and 5th daughter! Louisa spent her early years in the 9th Ward of Rochester; she worked for over twenty years as a tailoress. In her late 40s or early 50s, Louisa married James W. Bater, a Genesee County farmer, becoming his third wife. Louisa died in Batavia on 5 March 1921, of cerebral thrombosis. She was 64 years of age. On 7 March 1921 she was buried in Mount Hope Cemetery in the same plot as her sister, brother-in-law and niece, the George Popp family.
