He was born May 12, 1918, in Jefferson County to Robert Alexander Hardin and Irene Barlow Hardin. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II in Europe with the First U.S. Army, serving in five campaigns. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in two campaigns with the Korean Military Advisory Group as an advisor. He was a retired Army colonel. He was married to Roberta Ellen Zopfi Hardin from 1950 until her death in 1974. He was a resident of Athens from 1958 until 2005. He was a member of the Methodist church. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Sarah Irene Hardin, Hettie Estel Lankford and Nancy Lou Corbett. He is survived by his wife, Judith Hardin; one son, Major Leroy A. Hardin Jr., USAFR, of Gaithersburg, Md.; two daughters, Hedy Lou Cannon of Athens and Bobbi Sue Johnson of Melbourne Beach, Fla.; and six grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Fred Pepper, Keith Balch, Bill Davenport, Brad Clem, Joseph Allen Cannon and Billy R. Cannon Jr.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Over the Hill Gang.
