The Centre Democrat has changed hands,
J. S. & J. J. Brisbin having become its proprietors and editors, with W. W. Brown, Esq., as associate. The Democrat looks well - reads well - (barring its politics) - and will be a noisy organ during the approaching campaign.
James Johnston Brisbin, for over 20 years a resident of West Medford, died at half past ten Saturday evening at his home, 548 High Street, from appoplexy, having been stricken the day previous. Born in Boalsburg, Pennsylvania, Mr. Brisbin received his early education there and was for a time editor of the Center Democrat, published in that city. He served in the Civil War with honor, and for some years after the war closed, edited the Late President McKinley's paper, The Canton Repository, at Canton. He was a close friend of the late President. The major part of Mr. Brisbin's life was spent as general agent for the Midvale Steel Company of Pennsylvania, with offices in Philadelphia. Mr. Brisbin leaves a widow, one daughter, Miss. Nellie, and two sons, Edwin R. and William T. Brisbin, all living in the western section of the city.
The funeral was held from the late home of deceased at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. Floral tributes were many. Rev. Judson Van Clancy, pastor of the West Medford Congregational Church was in charge, assisted by Rev. Herbert W. Stebbins, a former pastor of the church. A detachment from Post 66 under command of Vice-Commander Winslow Joyce attended the services and performed at the grave the impressive burial ritual of the Grand Army, Mr. Brisbin having been a member of Post 66. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery.
