Samuel K. Kistler, 88, of Penn Township, died Friday, March 13, 2009, in Palm Garden of Largo, Fla. He was born July 17, 1920, in Franklin Township, a son of the late Francis and Sara Kunkle Kistler. Prior to his retirement from the Army National Guard, Col Kistler served in the 503rd Infantry Division (ERROR - this should be the 503rd Parachute Infantry Regiment) in World War II as a paratrooper. He was a member of Denmark Manor United Church of Christ, the Bushy Run Lion's Club and the Masonic Lodge and Shriners. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Della Steele Kistler, in 1993; and a brother, Raymond Kistler. He is survived by two sons, Samuel E. Kistler and his wife, Amy, of Harrison City, and Barry R. Kistler and his wife, Debra, of Claridge; four grandchildren, Eric and his wife, Nadine, Shawn and his wife, Renee, Holly and Barry; a great-grandson, Sammy; two brothers, George Kistler, of West Deer Township, Kenneth Kistler, of Belleview; a sister, Patricia Kistler, of Penn Township; and companion, Shirley Larkin, of Michigan. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the JAMES E. LINDSAY FUNERAL HOME INC., 3343 Route 130, Harrison City. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home with the Rev. Meredith Hutchison officiating. Interment will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Penn Township.
