ELMER MARKWARDT

Mr. Elmer J. Markwardt, 80, of 1402 Goodwin Rd., Manitowoc, died Saturday morning, October 31, 1987 at Manitowoc Health Care Center. Funeral services will be 11 am Monday at First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. William Plank will officiate and entombment will be in Knollwood Mausoleum.

Mr. Markwardt was born February 2, 1907 in the Town of Two Rivers, son of the late Charles and Ida Habeck Markwardt. He attended schools in Manitowoc and was a dairy farmer for 45 years having the Indian Springs Dairy Farm, retiring in 1968.

He married Helen Vogeltanz, June 24, 1930 at Two Rivers. The couple shortly thereafter moved to the farm. Mr. Markwardt was a member of First Presbyterian Church. The couple celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1980.

Mr. Markwardt was Treasurer and Trustee for many years at the church. He served as a School Board District Director and for 4 years served on the Vocational School Board and 15 years as a County Committee member of the Agriculture Stabilization Conservation Service. Mr. Markwardt was also a member of Manitowoc County Farm Bureau.

Survivors include his wife, Helen; two sons and daughters-in-law, Donald C. and Grace Markwardt and Dale and Leslie Markwardt, all of Manitowoc; seven grandchildren, Lynn and Brian Markwardt of Manitowoc, Jeffrey and Sarah Markwardt of Manitowoc, Mrs. Debra Markwardt Bonk of Manitowoc, Mrs. Joan Markwardt Fritz of Billings, Montana and Mrs. Nancy Markwardt Rettew of Melrose Park, Pennsylvania; a great grandson, Isaac; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Lester.

Friends may call at Jens Funeral Home, Manitowoc, 4 pm to 8 pm this Sunday and from 10 am Monday until the time of services at the church. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church.
