Andrew Christianson, 92, of Minneota, died peacefully at his son's home in St. Cloud on Monday, May 10, 2010.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 18, at Hope Lutheran Church in Minneota.Following the service, an informal gathering to celebrate Andrew's life will be held from 4-6 p.m. at the American Legion in Minneota.
Andrew John Christianson was born January 16, 1918, to Carl and Anna (Pearson) Christianson. He was baptized and confirmed at Hope Lutheran Church where he was a member his entire 92 years. He also sang in the church choir for over 50 years.
He grew up in the Minneota community and graduated from Minneota Public Schools. In 1943, he joined the US Army Infantry 118 Battalion 30th Division. Andrew served 38 months overseas during WWII in Iceland, northern France, Germany, Ireland and England, working with wire communications.
When he returned home in 1945, he attended Dunwoody Institute to study electronics.
On July 27, 1946, Andrew married Helen Giffen, of Cottonwood, at Lexington Parkway Presbyterian Church in St. Paul.
They moved back to Minneota in October of 1950 where he started his Radio and TV service/repair shop.
Andrew was active in the Minneota American Legion, Minneota Businessmen Association, Sons of Norway, and sponsored a bowling team. He loved and supported his home town.
Andrew enjoyed watching his sons and grandsons play sports and continued to be an avid fan into his later years.
Andrew is survived by his wife, Helen, of St. Peter; daughter Deb (Bill) Dixon of St. Peter; son Dick (Krista Knott) of St. Cloud; grandsons, Drew (Melanie) Dixon of Northfield, Nathan (Carolyn Breitkreutz) Dixon of Fort Calhoun, NE, and Jed Dixon of Nevada City, CA; great-grandsons, Liam, Anders, and Quinn of Northfield; one brother, Robert (Dorothy) Christianson of St. James, and sister-in-law Lucille Christianson of Marshall; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, John Thomas Christianson; sisters, Selma (Albert) Reese, Clarice (Abo) Josephson, Audrey (Leonard) Ahlschlager and brothers, Irving (Pearl), Carl (Millie), Elmer (Edith), Lester, Donald (Penny) and in-laws Mabel and Andrew Giffen.
