LEOMINSTER -- Donna Lee (Bonner) McCaffrey, 72, of Leominster, passed away Saturday, March 16, 2013, in her home surrounded by her loving family.

Donna was born in Leominster on March 6, 1941, daughter of the late Vincent and Linnea (Olson) Bonner. She graduated Valedictorian from Leominster Senior High School in 1959. She received a Bachelor's Degree in English in 1963 from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where she was also a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. In 1966, Donna received her Master of Education degree from Fitchburg State College. Her teaching career began in the mid 1960's at Oakmont High School and Leominster High School. From 1979 until her retirement in 2010, Donna taught English and Writing at Saint Bernard's Central Catholic High School in Fitchburg.

She was a lifelong parishioner of Saint Leo's Parish, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. Donna was a longtime member of Oak Hill Country Club.

In her spare time, she loved reading and cross word puzzles. Donna's true enjoyment was her family, especially her grandchildren.

She leaves her husband of 48 years, Bernard F. McCaffrey of Leominster; her sons, Bernard McCaffrey Jr., and wife, Christine of Scarborough, ME, Edwin McCaffrey and wife, Maura of West Brookfield, Mike McCaffrey and wife, Rebecca of Leominster; grandchildren, Kristen, Caitlin, and Sarah McCaffrey, Patrick and Connor McCaffrey, and Noah and Abby Johnson; several nieces and nephews.

Donna was predeceased by her sister, Charmayne Nutting.

The funeral will be held from Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 with a Mass in St. Leo's Church at 11:00 AM. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, March 19, from 5-7 PM in the funeral home. The McCaffrey family would like to extend their most sincere gratitude and appreciation to all of Donna's caregivers. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to St. Leo's Parish, 128 Main Street, Leominster, MA 01453 or to Health Alliance Home Health and Hospice, 25 Tucker Drive, Leominster, MA 01453.
