Kenaz F. Hargis was reared and educated in Jackson, Ky. He commenced the study of law when young, and was licensed to practice in 1856, being admitted to the bar the same year. He soon afterwards moved to Beattyville, Lee County, and engaged in mercantile pursuits with W. P. Hill, continuing in this business until 1860. At the close of the war he enaged in business at Boonesboro, remaining there until 1867, when he removed to Beattyville and resumed the practice of law. He was elected circuit and county court clerk of Lee County at the time of its organization in 1870, serving one term. In August, 1886, he was elected county attorney. February 19, 1857, he married Miss Elizabeth A. McGlasson, a daughter of John C. and Eliza (England) McGlasson, of Fleming County. To their union were born two children, both of whom are deceased.
