W.W. Blackwell was born in 1820 in Alabama. During the Civil War he served in Company A, 1st Louisiana Regiment, Blanchard's Brigade in the Army of Northern Virginia. The 1st Louisiana was organized in 1861 around New Orleans. From September 1864 until the surrender at Appomattox Court House, Virginia the 1st consolidated with the 14th Infantry Regiment. Blackwell came to Texas in 1842, and lived in Jonesville, Harrison County where he was a member of the Methodist Church. He was a physician who suffered from old age. He was admitted to the Confederate Home on January 24, 1898 where he died September 28, 1908.
