Gordon M. Popelar, age 93, formerly of 1413 Nagle Ave., Manitowoc, died on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008, at Laurel Grove Assisted Living, Manitowoc.
Gordon was born on Feb. 24, 1915, in the town of Kossuth, son of the late Michael and Anna (Oswald) Popelar.
He married the former Viola Krejcarek on Oct. 22, 1940, in Manitowoc. She preceded him in death April 21, 2005.
Gordon served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed with Chicago and Northwestern Railroad for 26 years, and then Mirro Aluminum Company until his retirement in 1977.
He was a past member and commander of the VFW Otto Oas Post 659 and the Manitowoc Senior Center. Gordon enjoyed ballroom dancing, bowling, traveling and spending time in his garden. He also enjoyed repairing watches and clocks.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Viola; two brothers and one sister-in-law: Darwin (Helen) Popelar and Clarence Popelar; and one sister and brother-in-law: Grace (Jack) Schamburek.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Monday, Aug. 11, 2008, at Knollwood Chapel Mausoleum, Highway 310, Manitowoc. Deacon Alan Boeldt will officiate, and entombment will follow at Knollwood Mausoleum. Military services will be accorded by the VFW Otto Oas Post 659.
Relatives and friends may call at the Mausoleum from 10 a.m. until the time of service at noon.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. The Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home, Manitowoc, assisted the Popelar family with funeral arrangements.
