Leslie was born February 25, 1913 to Clara Jane Booze the daughter of William Henry Booze, Jr. and Sally A Ripley. Something went wrong in the birth. She was not able to take care of the child who was born early and very small. Clara Jane Booze died 30 days later.

Henry Mathias Booze and Laura Enos Honts went to get the child in a horse and buggy carriage. The put him in blankets in a shoe box as he was so tiny. Henry Mathias Booze was a sister to Leslie’s mother, Clara Booze. Laura Honts was the daughter of George Honts of Fincastle.

Leslie could not digest milk and there were not many options to feed him so Laura Honts Booze, fed him soft warm bread with lots of real butter and he sucked on it and that was his food until he was able to drink milk. This lasted for 7-10 days according to my father.

Leslie then started growing and drank milk and continued to grow.

Leslie was in the Army during World War 11 and after the war was over he worked as a school bus driver. He also worked at the local cement plant. He helped local farmers. He also worked with Rink Booze at his car dealership in Buchanan, Virginia.

William Booze and Laura Honts raised Leslie his whole life just like one of their own children. My father talks of him like an older brother.

The last job that Leslie had was at the cement plant and he was forced to retire due to a disability. He died from Alzheimer’s Disease at the VA Hospital. He was 47 years old.

He and his wife Thelma Booze never had children. As told by my Father Phillip Henry Booze.
