Daughter Of Henry Lanning, Near Butler, Victim of Dread Disease

(Special to The Sentinel)

Butler, Ind, Nov 22 - Stricken suddenly last Saturday, Miss Ada Lanning, 15 years old, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lanning, resided two and one-half miles southwest of Butler, died at 3 o'clock this morning of infantile paralysis. Miss Lanning was taken seriously from the start and seemed to be paralyzed over her entire body. Her suffering was most intense.

Clara, 9 years old, another daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lanning, is also ill with the disease, being taken ill the forepart of last week. Her condition is not regarded as serious. The paralysis seems to be confined to her feet. There are five children in the Lanning family, all of whom are quarantined and every possible precaution is being taken by the health officers to prevent the disease from spreading.

There is at the present time one case of the disease in Butler, but the patient is believed to be on the road to recovery. Miss Ada Lanning was a pupil at the Wilmington Center school. Health officers have been unable to determine where the disease came from or in what manner it was brought into this community.
