LIPZIN, KENI (Sachar, Kreine Sonia; 1856–1918), Yiddish actress. Born in Russia, she made her debut in Abraham Goldfaden's company. She joined Jacob P. *Adler's London company in 1884, and married the theater manager, V. Lipzin. Later she married Michael Mintz, publisher of the Jewish Daily Herald. Jacob Gordin wrote Mirele Efros and adapted Grillparzer's Medea for her. When a theater she ran faced bankruptcy, her husband committed suicide, but she continued to act and paid all her creditors. Jacob Gordin's controversial play Khasye di Yesoyme, about the miserable treatment of a poor relative by a rich family, was written in 1903 for Lipzin.
