"[DIED.] AHLBACH-- In this city, August 18, William J., son of Jacob and Mary Ahlbach, aged 5 months." ~The Daily Examiner, S.F., Aug. 20, 1883, p. 4
Additional info from cemetery records:
Wm. J. Ahlbach-- Res of 1506 Folsom. Died of marasmus. Native of S.F.
Originally buried in Mount Calvary Cemetery (SF/defunct). During the 1940-41 Calvary removal project, workers noted that they found no remains ("No find") in the grave believed to be his.
Others in this plot were removed to Holy Cross--
* His mother (Mary/Maria) to B 11 17 g4 on 21 Oct 1903, joining William's recently deceased dad
* His brother Georgie & aunt (Julia) & uncle (Peter) to the general reburial area on 22 May 1940
Without any other document trail to follow, it seems most likely that William returned to the earth where he lay in Calvary. However, it's still within the range of possibility that he could have ended up in one of those 2 places at Holy Cross.
