Karl Rudolph badly hurt in gun accident. In Critical Condition At Two Rivers Hospital; Has Blood Transfusion
Karl R. Rudolph, 21, of 930 South 24th street, is fighting for his life at the Two Rivers hospital as a result of a shooting accident Sunday afternoon in which a bullet pierced his body below the left armpit and coursed downward toward the right side of his body.
Rudolph was shot when he was target shooting about five miles north of Two Rivers with Lyle Dallman, 20, of Two Rivers. Rudolph has two bad punctures in his abdomen, authorities said, and was given a blood transfusion this morning and had two transfusions yesterday.
Several Manitowoc Boy Scout leaders and members of the DeMolay went to Two Rivers to offer blood transfusions. Rudolph is a member of the DeMolay and assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 3.
Details Vague
Complete details on the accident were not available and authorities had not been fully informed of the accident. Only Dallman and Rudolph were present when the shooting occurred. The bolt of Dallman's rifle slipped as he was loading the gun, it was reported. The accident occurred at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday. The bullet entered at close range, according to the attending physician, for there were powder marks on Rudolph's arm. Dallman rushed Rudolph to the hospital after the accident and at first it was not believed serious.
Members of Dallman's family stated that he was home on a visit Sunday afternoon when Rudolph came and asked him to go target practicing. Dallman returned to his work in Antigo yesterday.
Rudolph is an employe of the Fehrs Jewelry store in Manitowoc and a son of Mr.and Mrs. Walter Rudolph.
