On June 17, 1939, she married Carl Christian Rusch at Black Creek. He preceded her in death on May 6, 2002. Verona worked with Carl, a cheese maker, for 27 years at various cheese factories in Northeast Wisconsin. In 1961, they bought the Two Creeks General Store on Highway 42. Christmas was always a busy time with the bulk candy sales. Verona, Carl, and their family operated the store until their retirement in 1979.
