Whitall, Samuel Rucker, soldier, was born May 17, 1844 in Michigan. In 1864 he was
commissioned second lieutenant in the second New York artillery. In 1906 he was advanced
to the rank of brigadier general and retired.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Father of William Van Rensselaer (1869 VA - 1945)
