CHILDRESS, FRANCIS M.
(1847~1938)
Francis M. Childress, Confederate veteran, was born in Alabama in 1847. When the Civil War broke out, he was living in Missouri and joined the 16th Missouri Infantry.
After the War, in 1871, he moved to Texas and eventually settled in Boxelder. On March 7, 1935, a widower, he moved into the Confederate Men's Home in Austin and stayed there until his death on February 15, 1938. He was buried in the Texas State Cemetery that next day. He had one son, W. R. Childress, who was living in Avery.
