Reading Eagle Obit (25 Apr 1921):

Gideon S. Reider died at his home near Robeson Station, aged 63 years. He had been in ill health for several years and bedfast for nearly a year. He was a native of Oley, a son of Gideon S. Reider [and Eliazabeth (Stitzer) Reider)], and was brought up here on his father's farm. He came to this borough more than 30 years ago and worked on the large Clingan farms, also serving as coachman for the late Charles B. Clingan. For a number of years he had charge of training of trotting horses for the Clingan Bros. and others who took interest in light harness racing. He was a driver of ability and guided his steeds to victory on some of the best race tracks in the country. He was fearless as well as adept and developed many an animal into a stake winner and increased the market value of all that were put in his care. Some 15 years ago he purchased the Focht farm and made it his permanent residence and followed farming for the remainder of his days. For several years he served a milk route in Birdsboro and also held the position of tax collector in Robeson. He was a member of Camp 417, P.O.S.A., Birdsboro, and Birdsboro Castle 453.

Mr. Reider was a fine man, honest to a fault, ever cheerful and the best of neighbors. He was ever ready to do a favor, and when the mail agent of Route 1, Birdsboro R.D. was off duty, he made a capable substitute, even though important work at home sometimes had to be postponed. He was extremely fond of his family and saw to it that they had everything needful to their proper bringing up.

He married Mary E. Steinmetz of Robeson, who survives him, as do the following children: Sallie, wife of Daniel Seifert, Beckersville; Harry and Charles at home; Maud, wife of John C. Redcay, Springmont; Blanche, wife of Paul Merkel, Birdsboro; Morris, Birdsboro; Edward, Gibraltar; brothers: Jeremiah and Daniel, Reading; Joel, living outside of Oley; and a step-brother in the West; sisters Emma, wife of Thomas Scheidt, Oley; and Sallie, wife of Ammon Kline, Reading.
