Maxine Ruby Mooney of LaCygne, Kansas died quietly at her beloved home, with family at her side on February 18, 2013. She was born on October 10, 1921, the daughter of Earl and Ida Holt Miller. Maxine married Harry Norton, Jr. June 14, 1942 in Paola, Kansas. He preceded her in death in 1962. Maxine went back to school following the death of her first husband and started her own business. For 35 years Maxine owned and operated Maxine's Beauty Salon. She was an active member of the LaCygne United Methodist Church, Delta Sigma Chi, Bridge Clubs, P.E.O Chapter CV, a 4-H leader and Sunday school teacher. In addition to her many responsibilities, Maxine found great satisfaction in homemaking and caring for her husband, children and grandchildren. She hosted many family gatherings and was known for her fabulous pies and homemade ice cream. Gardening was her passion and she found beauty in all of God's creation. She was an accomplished needlepoint artist and the family cherishes the lovely pieces she has given to them. Maxine lived an exceptional life and leaves an indelible legacy on the many that loved her. We are especially grateful to her wonderful caregivers and to the Olathe Medical Center hospice team. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Harry and Glen Miller, and two sisters in-law, Barbara and Meleese Miller.

A celebration of life will be held 3 PM Saturday, February 23, 2013 at the Schneider's LaCygne Funeral Home and Chapel. Private family inurnment will take place at Oak Lawn Cemetery, LaCygne.
