Wilson McKnight Gamble was born near Bowerston, Harrison County, Ohio on March 19, 1844 . Gamble enlisted in the Union Army in March of 1862, and served three years with the Sixty Ninth Ohio Volunteer Infantry, as well as serving for significant time with the Pioneer Brigade of the Army of the Cumberland. He was present at the Battle of Stone's River, the Siege of Atlanta and marched with General William Tecumseh Sherman to the Sea in 1864. Wilson Gamble was listed in the Tulare County Great Register for 1889. He moved his family from Colorado to Tulare in 1894. His daughters Flora Gamble Wilder and Alice Gamble Mulcahy were prominent Tulare educators in the early 20th century. He died February 18, 1908.
