OLD CITIZEN DEAD. Joseph Cadwalader, After an Illness of Fifteen Weeks, Passes Away. At 1:35 o'clock this afternoon, Joseph Cadwalader, one among the old and widely known citizens of New Albany, died at his home on East Market street, between Third and Fourth, after an illness of fifteen weeks. His disease was bronchitis, brought on by an attack of la grippe. His age was 75 years. Joseph Cadwalader had been a citizen of New Albany over forty years. He was among the earliest wholesale dry goods merchants of the city, commencing business in the firm of D. & J. Cadwalader in 1852. After retiring from the wholesale trade he engaged in a retail business, which he followed up to the time of his death. Deceased was widely known for his labors in the temperance cause, which were zealous and unselfish, for his charitable deeds, and was a man of the highest Christian character. He leaves a wife and three sons – two of the latter being John and Thomas Cadwalader, the State street dry goods merchants. - New Albany Daily Ledger 02 Mar 1892
