Marriage notice for Helen Freese and Ernest Thrasher from the Bloomington Telephone of Friday, June 1, 1906:

"A very pretty wedding -- an elopement was the event at the home of Mrs. Wm. Thrasher, West 8th Street, Thursday afternoon, in which Miss Helen Freese and Ernest Thrasher, well known young folks of Van Buren Township, were the central figures. With their young hearts the courseof true love had not been smooth, and because of their age, the parents of the groom had opposed the marriage. Last Saturday a license had been refused the prospective groom because of his shortage in years and he went away disappointed but determined. Love knows no locksmiths, and presumably intent upon observing Decoration Day the two young people managed to get together and were soon at the home of Rev. Luck when they made him accompany them to Bloomington, and a marriage license was secured. In the meantime, however, the father of Thrasher had joined them, and in sympathy of his boy, he appeared before Clerk Campbell and made the proper statement so that his age of 20 was waived. In due time, the blushing bride and the handsome groom were united andone forever. Soon they started for the country home of the groom where no doubt they will soon make peace with all the world. Miss Freese is aged 19 and the daughter of Walter Freese, and the groom the son of Stanford Thrasher, both of whom are leading farmers near Stanford."

From the Logansport Pharos-Tribune of Wednesday, August 10, 1927:

"SEEKS DAMAGES FROM BLOOMINGTON POLICE CHIEF. BLOOMINGTON, August 10---Alleging that Chief of Police Perry Cardwell wrongfully accused him of running a poker game and thereby defamed his reputation, Ernest Thrasher, well known Bloomington man, today started a slander suit against the chief for $2,000. The complaint alleges that in a conversation, Cardwell said that Thrasher was running a poker game over the Blue Goose bus station."
