Jerry Hopping, 54, of 3701 Panarama Road, died April 28, 1992, at Garden City.

He was born Aug. 23, 1937, at Florence, the son of John W. and Irene Watkins Hopping. He was a 1955 graduate of Sterling High School and a 1959 graduate of Sterling College.
A Hutchinson resident since 1985, he was manager of the former Dock 44 Discount Store, Hutchinson, and at the time of his death was assistant manager of Gibson's Discount Center, Garden City.

He was a member of the Countryside Baptist Church, Hutchinson, and had served in the U.S. Army.

On Aug. 22, 1959, he married Joan Marie Tigner at the United Methodist Church in Sterling. She survives.

Other survivors include a son, John, of the home; a daughter, Lori Klaassen (address withheld for privacy); two brothers, Victor, McPherson; and Wayne, Oakland, Iowa; and a sister, Velma Meriowsky, Wichita.
