Nobility. Born the second daughter of Baudouin de Flandre and Marie de Champagne. She succeeded her sister Jeanne in 1244 as Countess of Flanders and Hainaut. Her first marriage to Bouchard de Avesnes was annulled in 1215, but they separated only around 1221. Pope Gregory IX declared the marriage invalid 31 Mar 1237 and the children illegitimate, but they were later legitimized again. In 1223 she remarried to Guillaume II of Dampierre whom she bore four children. She abdicated in 1278 in favor of her son Guy.
