Born about 1823 in New Jersey. Came to NY State with his parents John and Margaret (Frone) Rulason and younger brother, Frederick by the 1840 census when they are found living in the town of Geneseo, Livingston County, NY. The family was originally from Denmark and the surname was Ruloffson or Roelofson (son of Roelof). Laurentz Ruloffson, the earliest known ancestor was in NY by 1715. Soon after he moved to NJ and settled in Hunterdon County around Readington.
Sylvester Rulason married Persis Osgood about 1847 probably in Livingston County, NY where her family lived. They settled in Allegheny County for a while where they are found at Angelica in the 1850 census. Not long after they moved to Springwater, Livingston County, NY where they are living in the 1855 census. Sylvester died sometime in 1856 and is buried next to his father.
Sylvester and Persis (Osgood) Rulason had 6 children, but only 4 lived to adulthood. Persis remarried to Isaac W. Jones and moved to Arenac County, Michigan before the 1880 census. All the surviving Rulason and Jones children moved there with her.

Gravesite Details
Stone lying flat on the ground. It is almost completely illegible except for a few letters of the name. It is next to his father's stone. Age (34) and date (1856) are from town historian's records.
