Mickey was the son of Millard M. Blackstock and Helen Gugerty. In 1951 he married Jacqueline Rolene Butler in Los Angeles County. The couple had thirteen children, including son Bill Blackstock. The last daughter, Scolastica Blackstock died at birth. Jackie past away suddenly just seven months later.
After Jackie's untimely death, he married Alice M. McEvoy on September 6, 1975 at Nevada, and became step-father to seven children. Mickey and Alice had four more children.
He retired after a long career from the Los Angeles City Fire Department.
