Mr. Best was a native of Wayne County and was the son of the late Prince Albert Best Sr. and Sarah Brinson Best. He received a bachelor's degree from North Carolina A&T State University and a master's degree in education from East Carolina University. His career in education spanned more than 30 years and included positions as band director and school counselor, and in administration at Wayne Community College. He was a charter member of Theta Omicron Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. and was a member and trustee at New Spirit Church Ministry.
He is survived by his wife, Ernestine F. Best; two sons, Bryon J. (Kim) Best of Douglasville, Ga., and Gary A. Best of Upper Marlboro, Md.; one daughter, Selina Best of Douglasville, Ga.; two grandsons, Bryon and Julian Best of Douglasville, Ga.; two sisters, Geraldine (Aaron) McFadden of Rochester, N.Y., and Louise Cooke of Teaneck, N.J.; and one brother, Amos (Eula) Best of Waldorf, Md.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly Latriese Best.
The viewing hours will be from 4 until 7 p.m. on Friday at Hamilton Funeral Chapel. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. and at other times at the residence at 401 Hamilton Drive.
