Lulu was 4 years old when her mother died. Her father, Samuel Jonas Boone Griffith, remarried for the third time, but she died in 1902, just prior to Lulu's 9th birthday. Samuel married a 4th time, and moved his wife and children to Arkansas. I remember my father telling me that Samuel (his great-uncle) was kicked in the stomach by a mule while plowing a field and died. I heard the same story from Samuel's grand-daughter a few years ago.
