Audrey Mae (O'Connell) Sickinger, age 72, of 5014 County Trunk G, Reedsville, WI, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on July 22, 2006. Her deep faith in God and her enduring personal strength in battling cancer was witnessed every day by those who knew her best.
Audrey, daughter of Morgan and Helen (Sheahan) O'Connell, was born July 19, 1934, at the O'Connell Family homestead (established 1849).

She attended St. Patrick's Catholic Grade School in Maple Grove and was an honor graduate with the class of 1952 at Valders High School.
In 1953 she graduated from the Milwaukee School of Business.

On May 9, 1953, Audrey married Jerome John Sickinger, her childhood sweetheart, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Maple Grove.

The couple farmed in the town of Cato from 1960 to 1990, moving to the town of Franklin in 1990, and retiring in 1992. Together the couple received the Jaycees Outstanding Young Farmers Award at the county, state and national level in 1970 and the Wisconsin Master Agriculturist Award in 1981.
Audrey and her husband hosted 20 exchange students from twelve countries (American Field Service (AFS), 4-H International Farm Youth Exchange, Farm Bureau International Farm Training and Worldwide Farmers Exchange). She and Jerome hosted tours for school children, commodity organizations and foreign leaders and were members of Agricultural Educational tours to Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia and Peru.

In her own right, Audrey was recognized as a national leader in the dairy industry. She was first appointed to the USDA Agriculture Trade Advisory Committee and later served on the National Dairy Promotion & Research Board (1984-1989). Other appointments included serving on Wisconsin's State Agriculture Advisory Committee, Right to Farm Committee, Dairy Task Force and being a WDATCP Credit Advocate for northeast Wisconsin. She was recognized as Wisconsin's Farm Wife of the Year by the Colby Chamber of Commerce, National Dairy Woman of the Year by World Dairy Expo and was presented the President's Volunteer Action Award by President Ronald Reagan.

She was the current president of Bay Lakes Chapter of Wisconsin Women for Agriculture and Vice President of the national organization of American Agri-Women (AAW), sitting on the Nomination Committee and Resource Center Board. In the past, she served as AAW's Secretary, Dairy Committee Chairperson and Dairy Commodity Co-Chair and received the prestigious Leaven Award (1979) as well as the President's Award (2006) from that organization. Audrey was especially proud of her work with the Friend's of St. Patrick and was current treasurer.

Audrey was a past member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, St. Michael's Christian Mothers (President & Vice president), Grimms Helping Hands and Manitowoc County Home & Community Education (formerly Extension Homemakers), Cato Heights 4-H Club (General Leader for 22 years), Valders P.T.O. (Treasurer), Valders A.F.S. Adult Chapter, Valders Future Farmers of America Alumni, Valders Vocational Ag Advisory Committee, Port Cities Business & Professional Women (President, Vice President, Treasurer). Additionally, she was a member of the Outstanding Farmers of America Fraternity, Wisconsin Agriculture Council of America, Wisconsin Agri-Business Council, Wisconsin Farm Progress Days Boosters, Wisconsin Farm-City Council, Manitowoc County Farm Bureau, Manitowoc County Chamber of Commerce, Manitowoc County Dairy Promotion Committee, Manitowoc County Holstein Breeders, Manitowoc Milk Producers Cooperative and Lakeshore Farm Management Cooperative. She was a lifetime member of Manitowoc County Expo.

Survivors include six children and their spouses, one special foreign-exchange daughter, and one son-in-law as follows:
Sandra Sickinger and husband Lyle Holschbach, Reedsville; Debra Lins and husband Kendall, Prairie du Sac; James Sickinger and wife Cheri, Reedsville; Michael Sickinger and wife Laurel, Manitowoc; Mary Fischer and husband Gerald, Reedsville; Patricia (Sickinger) Robinson and fiance Brian Musial, Edgerton;
Colinda Behnke and husband Dan, Manitowoc;
and son-in-law Paul Dvorak, Reedsville.
Audrey is further survived by 17 grandchildren and two future grandchildren;
one sister: Samantha Dixion, Westminster, Colo.;
one brother-in-law: Ronald Sickinger and wife Carol;
four sisters-in law: Doris Brandl, Cato; Joan Waier and husband Robert, Janesville; Charlotte Mezera, Janesville; and Phyllis McCanna and husband Gary Smith, Portland, Oregon;
and special nephews Russell Brandl, Howards Grove; and Andre Dixion, Westminster, Colo.

Audrey was preceded in death by her husband Jerome;
daughter: Janet Dvorak;
brothers-in-law: Richard Theisen, Harold Brandl and Gene Mezera;
and nephew: Leon Brandl.

The family will greet relatives, neighbors and friends on Thursday, July 27, 2006, during a memorial service at St. Patrick's Heritage Center, Maple Grove, from 5 to 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service. Funeral services will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. on Friday, July 28, 2006, at Holy Family Parish, Brillion, with the Rev. Mathew Simonar celebrating the Mass of Resurrection at 10 a.m. Entombment will follow at Knollwood Mausoleum.

Special friends Edward & Anne Pritzl, Rita & Joe Vogel and Margaret Klug were a tremendous comfort to Audrey during her illness. The Sickinger Family would also like to extend a special thank you to the extremely talented and generous staff of Holy Family Memorial Hospital and that organization's services of Hospice & Homecare as well as Drs. Rodney Halvorsen, Sean Benham and Lynn Baatz for their compassionate care of Audrey in recent months.
