The following obituary was published in the Butler Herald newspaper dated Thursday May 2, 1935, page one:
Mr. J. K. Adams Dies
At Home At Howard
After Long Illness

Having outlived his three-score-and-ten years as an honorable, upright citizen, Mr. J. K. Adams peacefully passed from life to a home in the skies, Sunday morning last, his death following an illness of several months at his home at Howard where he had resided for the past quarter of a century or longer.
During his years of active service Mr. Adams was a successful farmer. In the affairs of his country he always manifested a keen interest. Although not a member of any church his was an exemplary life in the things for which the church stood and of most helpful service to all mankind.
Surrounded by a large assemblage the sorrowing relatives and friends, the remains of Mr. Adams were tenderly laid to rest in the family lot in Howard cemetery Monday morning, 10 o'clock. Rev. W. E. Hightower conducting the funeral service.
Mr. Adams is survived by his wife and two daughters, Mrs. Lewis Brown and Miss Mattie Adams.

TO THE MEMORY OF MR. JOHN K. ADAMS

On Sunday, April 28, 1935, the death angel visited the home of Mrs. J. K. Adams at Howard and bore peacefully away the spirit of Mr. Adams from life into death following several weeks illness. He had been in failing health for several years.
We realize it is hard to give up our loved ones but we feel the assurance that in the passing of Mr. Adams that our loss is Heaven's eternal gain.
Mr. Adams was always willing and glad to do his part im the church and community in which he lived. He was born in Talbot County on August 19, 1949, making his stay on earth 85 years.
Mr. Adams is survived by his wife who before her marriage was Miss Mollie E. Childs, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. T.J. Childs of Talbot County, and two daughters, Mrs. Lewis Brown and Miss Mattie Adams beside other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. E. Hightower at the Howard Methodist church followed by interment in the Howard Cemetery.

Peaceful be thy silent slumber,
Peaceful in the grave so low,
Thou no more shall join our number,
Thou no more our song shall know

Why do we grieve over the departed or shake at death's alarm?
