Steve Joseph Obert was born 6 Aug. 1888 in Nižná, Tvrdošín District, Slovakia.

He immigrated to the U.S. in 1892 and became a Naturalized Citizen on 4 Sept. 1918. He served his country in WWI.


He married Mary Melva Fisher on 4 Mar. 1920 after having a baby girl with her on 17 Jan. 1920. Mary died of scarlet fever in June 1920 (she was only 17).


Steve married Rachael "Peggy" Caves on 16 Jan 1924 at Coeur d'Alene, Kootenai, Idaho. They had two sons (Wayne Edwin and Lyle Joseph).
