Roy K. Hartman, 79, of Rockford died at 8:14 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, 2000, at his home. Born Dec. 6, 1920, in Chadwick, the son of Roy J. and Hilda Kieckhaefer Hartman. Lived most of his life in Rockford. Married Doris Leatherby in Rockford on Aug. 29, 1941.

Employed by Rockford Fire Department for 31 years, retiring as director of Fire Prevention Bureau. U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in Gen. Patton's 3rd Army in the European Theater. Charter member of Broadway Covenant Church.

Survivors include wife, Doris, children Kenneth (Louise) Hartman, Sue (Leslie) Carlson, and Russell (LaDonna) Hartman; seven grandchildren; one great granddaughter, and one brother. Predeceased by sister, Mary Ellen DeChanso of California.

Memorial service at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, in Broadway Covenant Church, with the Rev. Richard Rasanen officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials to VNA Hospice or Broadway Covenant Church. Arrangements by Fitzgerald & Associates Funeral Home, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Road.
