Obituary for Eric Hurt
Eric F. Hurt, 89 (August 4, 1922) passed away, with his family near him, June 10, 2012 at the Veterans Community Living Center in Tuscaloosa, AL. He had been a resident/patient in their care since December 22, 2011.

Mr. Hurt grew up in the midst of family and friends of Sweet Water, Nanafalia, and Beaver Creek, AL. He remained fond of his home places.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps and became a POW in a German Camp (Austria) after the plane in which he served as a gunner was shot down. He was a prisoner for 17 months. Upon his release, he was awarded several medals for bravery and wounds suffered.

Mr. Hurt retired from James River (Naheola mill) where he worked for many years. He had also enjoyed cattle farming, gardening and an occasional deer hunt when he thought he might get a chance at a "biggun".

He is preceded in death by his mother (Blanche Kirkham Hurt), his father (Floyd Hurt) and two brothers (Benton and Selden).

Home to Mr. Hurt for 63 years was Gallion, AL. He raised his family and minded his own business. He was a quiet-good man.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years (July 1945), Geraldine Barley Hurt, two sons Frank (Barbara) and Gerald (Jerri) all of Gallion, AL., and one daughter Carol Norris (George) of Jefferson, AL.

Grandchildren are Jason Hurt (Amber) and Amy Parr (Jim) of Demopolis, AL., Darryl Hurt (Angie) of Gallion, AL., and Angela (Scott Biggs) of Demopolis, AL.

Great Grandchildren are Taylor, Seth, and Holley Hurt of Gallion, Anna Grace and Emma Kate Parr and Cassidy Crawford of Demopolis, AL.
