Chester E. Singleton, M.D., passed away on Monday, March 25, 2013. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Greensboro Baptist Church with Rev. Dee McGuire, Rev. Trenidy Davis and Rev. Steve Vernon officiating and Kirk Funeral Homes Greensboro Chapel directing. Visitation will be Thursday night from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Dr. Singleton was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Ray Singleton and Garvis Singleton.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy T. Singleton, daughter, Sara S. McKinney (George), Ted L. Singleton and Abby Wadsworth (Sonny) and the mother of his children, Dora Jean Singleton, all of Greensboro; Grandchildren, Amanda S. Pinkstaff (John) of St. Louis, MO, George M. McKinney, Ill (Audra) of Greensboro, and Julia Singleton Davis (Trenidy) of Petal, MS; great grandchildren, Zadie Marie Pinkstaff, Isadora Stuart Pinkstaff, Abigail Grace McKinney, Liliana Kate McKinney, Elizabeth Davis, Allyson Davis and Trenidy L. Davis, Jr.; Stepchildren, Larry Arrington, (Kelly) of Tampa, FL Andy Arrington (Brenda) of Greensboro, Diana Arrington, of Tuscaloosa, AL, and C. Tucker Arrington, of Miami, FL.; Step grandchildren, John Arrington, Kate Lynn Arrington, Nikki Maddox (Blake), Jessica Nichols, Trey Ferrell (Kendall), John Allen Ferrell, Laurena Ferrell, and Caroline Arrington; Step-great-grandchildren, Ross Maddox, Braeden Nichols, Daniel, Mia and Marley Ferrell and Madison Arrington; sister, Eloise McKinney, of St. Stephens, AL, Nellie Bolton, of Hoke's Bluff, AL and his brother Will (Jan) Singleton of Newnan, Georgia.

Dr. Singleton was born on November 5, 1928, in Centre, Alabama to Ted Haney and Jewel Wester Singleton. He graduated from Cherokee County High School in 1947, and then enrolled in the University of Alabama and graduated in Pre-med in 1951, then received in Doctor of Medicine from University of Alabama Birmingham in 1955.

He then served as a Captain in the Army and was stationed in Germany. After the service, he moved his family to Greensboro, and began a practice with Wallace McAdory. He then went out on his own and practiced for 40 years. He even made house calls, something that you do not hear of anymore. Dr. Singleton retired in 2000. During his career, he was a charter member of the West Alabama EMS Board, and a charter member of West Alabama Health Development Corporation, which worked to recruit doctors to underserved areas. He was a member Hale County Cancer Society, Hale County Hospital Board and was Chief of Staff of Hale County Hospital. After retirement, he enjoyed meeting friends for coffee at the Mustang Oil, checking out new books at the library, and learning about the computer. He was an avid Alabama football fan and delivered many babies in Hale County, who were named for him, including former University of Alabama football player Chester Bragg.

Honorary pallbearers will be all employees of Singleton Clinic, past and present staff of Hale County Hospital, Hale County Ambulance Service, Steve Galvez, CRNP, Dr. Perry Timberlake, Dr. Ross Vaughn, Dr. John Mantle, Christy Albea, Hale County Home Health Staff, Helping Hands Therapy staff, Frank Reynolds, Kerry Rudder, neighbors at Clinquapin Trace, Mustang Coffee Drinkers, and the Men's Sunday School class at Greensboro Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Greensboro Baptist Church Building Fund.
