Stuart E. Bogan of Waterville

Stuart E. Bogan, 80, of Waterville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 13, 2005, at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, New Hartford, with his family by his side. He was born July 24, 1924, in Utica, the son of the late John and Helen Collins Bogan and was a graduate of Proctor High School. He was a member of the US Marine Corps, serving in the Pacific Theater during WW II. On June 14, 1947, he married A. Pearl Houle, a loving and devoted union of 47 years until her passing on March 12, 1994. For many years, Mr. Bogan was a machinist and supervisor at Chicago Pneumatic in Utica, retiring in 1987. He was an active member of St. Bernard's Church, Waterville, where he served as a church trustee, usher, Eucharistic minister and was a member of its Holy Name Society. Mr. Bogan also served as a Village of Waterville Trustee, was a member of the Clifford J. Fulmer American Legion Post #92, was a member and past treasurer of the Waterville Fish & Game Club and was a volunteer for the Waterville Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Mr. Bogan was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, whose life centered around his family, church and community. He was regularly seen at school events, chauffeuring his grandchildren, offering advice and spending time in his garden. He was well known for his infectious laugh and sense of humor.

He is survived by his four children, Kathleen Bogan-White of Rockford, IL, Mark Bogan of Waterville, Brian Bogan of Waterville and Christine Eastman of Shortsville; and a sister, Mary Ellen Gates of Frankfort. He is also survived by Kathy's family, husband, Paul; son, Paul (Zoe) White of New York City; daughter, Christina White of San Francisco, CA; and son, Jeffrey White of Chicago, IL; Mark's family, daughter, Lisa Dapson and her sons, Tyler and Joseph of Madison; and daughter, Lindsey (Rondell, USMC) Cyrus and their son, Aydian of Madison; Brian's family, wife, Colleen; daughter, Melissa (Michael) O'Brien of Fayetteville; daughter, Jodi Bogan of Waterville and her fiance, Jason Bradley; son, Charles Bogan of Las Vegas, NV; and daughter, Brittany Bogan of Waterville; and Chris's family, husband, Don; son, DJ (April) Eastman and their sons, Kevin and Eric of Buffalo; and son, Scott Eastman of Shortsville; and several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Peggy Cieplenski and the Acker families. Besides his parents and wife, Mr. Bogan was predeceased by two brothers, Thomas and John Bogan. The funeral will be Saturday at 9:30 from the Kloster-Northrop & Bentz Funeral Home, 210 E. Main St., Waterville, and 10 from St. Bernard's Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday evening, 5-8.
