Benjamin Eugene Latimer, age 88, was born November 30, 1924 in Hartville, Missouri to Dr. Benjamin Ezra Latimer and Auley Pearman Latimer. He departed this life March 20, 2013 in Palm Springs, California. Benjamin "Gene" was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mildred, brothers Jasper and Floyd, and sister Grace.
As a child, Gene spent many summers on the farm where he was greatly influenced by his grandmother who was an astute businesswoman. At a young age, he developed a keen interest in raising and showing dairy cattle. Gene attended the University of Missouri for a time, and during the first part of WWII he stayed behind to operate the Latimer Farm. When James and Floyd returned from service, he joined the US Army and served during reconstruction of Japan. Upon his return he worked for Sanitary Milk Producers in St. Louis, travelling the state selling equipment for upgrading dairy farms to Grade A status. He maintained his interest in cattle breeding and he and his brothers later won many awards for their excellent Jersey cattle.
In 1952, Gene married Mildred Burney of Aurora, Missouri. Gene was president of MWM Color Press in Aurora for 18 years. The company was sold to Consolidated Foods in 1971 and Gene continued as General Manager for the next five years. He and Mildred travelled the world for pleasure and also for business, buying some of their printing presses in Germany. He was active in Rotary Club and Hickory Hills Country Club.
In 1980, Gene and Mildred moved to Springfield where they retired shortly thereafter. They enjoyed their houseboat on Table Rock Lake and spending winters in Palm Springs. Gene loved to socialize and loved to dance. He also enjoyed Green Spring Investment Club, of which he was a member for many years.
Gene is survived by his brother James, sister-in-law Virginia, several nieces and nephews and caregiver and companion David.
