OBITUARY
Mr. Luke Sweetser, who died on Thursday at the age of eighty-two years, was one of the oldest and most respected citizens of Amherst, Mass. He was a native of Athol, and after spending a few terms at Amherst Academy, began his business career as a clerk. In 1818, he bought out the establishment of Mr. Wright Strong, his employer who was one of the leading merchants of Eastern Hampshire. Mr. Sweetser represented Amherst creditably in the legislature and also filled prominent town and church offices. He was greatly esteemed for his high character and his good deeds to the poor.
