Eugene Earle Stone Jr., 88, died Nov. 2, 2004.

Born in Greenville, he was the son of the late Eugene Earle Stone Sr. and Harriett Mitchell Stone.

Mr. Stone served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. He was stationed in Charleston, Savannah, Ga., Jacksonville, Fla., and Brunswick, Ga. He was an active member of Saint James Episcopal Church, where he served on the Vestry for several years. He also served on the Building Committee that oversaw the construction of the sanctuary at the current Piney Mountain location. Mr. Stone was a realtor and a developer; some of his projects included Stone Lake Heights and Stone Plaza Shopping Center. He enjoyed farming at his Saluda Valley Ranch in Marietta. Mr. Stone was a very devoted family man, who was loved and revered by those whose lives he touched.

He is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-seven years, Mary Jo Rowell Stone; his daughter, Mary Ann Stone Brown, of Marietta; his daughter, Harriett Stone Kinard, of Greer; his son, Charles B. "Chuck" Stone, of Greenville; his daughter, Caroline Stone Shedd, of Perry, Ga.; his sons-in-law, W. Bayne Brown, Richard Kinard and Frank Shedd; and his daughter-in-law, Rita K. Stone. He had nine grandchildren, Rhett Brown Koehn, and her husband, J., Richard G. Kinard, Mary K. Lane, and her husband, Dustan, Caroline Elizabeth Shedd, Marion Frank Shedd III "Trey," Jessica J. Stone, Kirby R. Stone, Eugene E. Stone II "Buck," and Charles B. Stone Jr. "Charlie"; and a great-grandchild, Jace Koehn. He is survived by a brother, Alexander M. Stone, of Marietta; two sisters, Hallie Stone Maxon, of Clearwater, Fla., and Ann Stone Cleveland, of Cedar Mountain, N.C.; a sister-in-law, Lois Rowell Inabinet, of Kingstree; a brother-in-law, Douglas D. Rowell, of Columbia. The family would also like to recognize blessed caregivers, Renee Shell and Jimmy Mingo, of Greenville.

The family would like to express their gratitude for the care and support they have received from Hospice of St. Francis in Greenville.

The service will be today at 3 p.m. at Saint James Episcopal Church on Piney Mountain Road in Greenville. The graveside service will be at the family's Earle-Stone Cemetery in Greenville.
