Abel D. Hoag was born at Nassau, N. Y., August 11, 1861. He came to Kansas in the spring of 1885 and for 27 years has lived in this vicinity, respected highly by every one who knew him. He was married to Miss Emma Gibson, March 8th, 1887, to which union were born two children, a son and a daughter - Germ and Miss Lora, both of whom survive him. He professed faith in Christ and united with the Presbyterian church of Blue Rapids, Ks., June 17, 1900. He was elected an elder of the church March 2, 1909, for a tern of three years, and I had the pleasure of ordaining him the following Sabbath. At the annual meeting last March he was re-elected for another term of three years. He is now translated from the church militant to the church triumphant to serve in a higher capacity.
Mr. Hoag died suddenly of heart failure June 26th, 1912, aged 50 years, 10 months and 15 days. He leave his life companion, two children, one grand-child, three brothers, one sister and other relatives to mourn their loss. A good man gone, loved by all who knew him well. The church has lost a strong friend and supporter. The pastor feels a distinct personal loss."
