Marvin Ray "Blue" Mondy, 81, of Odessa, passed from this life into his eternal rest on April 8, 2005 at Avalon Place.
He was born on July 22, 1923 in Sweetwater, Texas, to Walter Newton and Willie Bessie (Brewster) Mondy. He was a member of the armed forces and was stationed during World War II in England and France. He married Joan Taylor on May 20, 1946 in Sweetwater, Texas. They moved to Odessa in 1957 where he took a job at the new General Tire and Rubber Company. In 1973, at the age of 50, he was baptized and joined his wife Joan as a member of St. Andrew's Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon. He retired from General Tire in 1985. On June 18, 1994 he married Alene Collier in Odessa, Texas. His hobbies were playing golf and feeding the birds.
He would purchase three loaves of bread one for himself and two to feed to the birds.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Joan and one brother, Alvis Leon Mondy.
He is survived by his second wife, Alene Mondy of Odessa; one sister, Blanche Corder of San Angelo; two sons Craig of Tulsa, OK and Carl and his wife Judy of Odessa; one daughter, Cheryl Billingsley and her husband Bruce of Odessa; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. In addition to his immediate family, he is also survived by four step-children Don Collier of Denver City, Alma Kitchens and her husband Don of Odessa, Fred Collier and his wife Paula of Abilene, Kathy Smith of Odessa, five step grandchildren and eight step great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Monday in the Frank W. Wilson Funeral Chapel. Burial will be 3:00 pm Monday at the Sweetwater Cemetery in Sweetwater, Texas. The family will receive visitors Sunday from 3-5 pm at the funeral home.
