[Cumberland newspaper, 12 Jan 1928]
"Mrs Julia M. Rice dies at ninety-four. Sister, in hundredth year survives. Mrs Julia M. Rice, 94, wife of the late John M. Rice died early today at the home of her daughter, Mrs H. Little, 700 North Center Street.

"Mrs Rice had been an intermittent resident of the city ever since 1836, coming here from Connecticut where she was born, when but three years old. Her health was unimpaired save for her sight which was failing, until ten days prior to her death. Mrs Rice recalled many incidents connected with the early history of the city including the first railroad train to enter the city, remembering clearly the crowds which assembled at that occasion. She would have been 95 years old in February.

"Mrs Rice is survived by a sister, Mrs Harriet Willison of Flintstone, who will be 100 years old in July. Besides Mrs Little and Mrs Willison, Mrs Rice is survived by a long list of descendents. Two other daughters, Mrs F. Hinkle and Mrs Ursula Zimmerla and one foster daughter, Mrs J. Little, all of Cumberland survive. Seventeen grandchildren, thirty-one great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren also survive. The funeral will be held at 3:30 Sunday afternoon from the home of Mrs Little with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Lynn Arborgast of Midland M. E. Church will officiate."
